Get on IRC!!! - 01-08-2008, 09:50 PM

As of the first of the year our IRC chat is back up and running.

We now have three active IRC channels: #gatewaygamer, #gatewaygamer-help, and #gatewaygamer-irpg.

#gatewaygamer is our general chat room and home of the Tuxz0r's dicebot.
#gatewaygamer-help is for realtime assistance with the chat rooms and forums
and #gatewaygamer-irpg is the Idle rpg channel.

To access any of the IRC Channels click the IRC Chat button in the nav-bar. It will autofill with your username and let you select which channel you want to join.

If you would rather access the chat through an IRC client, log in through the server irc.blitzed.org (port: 6667).

For more information about the Gateway Gamer Idle RPG check out the information and instructions page.

I hope to see everyone chatting on IRC soon!

Now for the basics on the Dicebot...

The standard command for using the dicebot is:

roll [type] [dice]

Roll Type Notation
The available types are standard, open, and vector:

Standard (STD) - Your basic roll. If open or vector is not specified, the roll defaults to standard.
Open - An open ended roll, if the high number on the die is hit the die is re-rolled
with the new result added to the first. The result of each individual die is shown.
Vector - A standard roll where the result of each die is shown.

Dice Notation
The [dice] notation follow the standard presented in most roleplay books:

[ndice]d[nsides][modifier]

ndice - the number of dice to roll (max of 100)
nsides - the number of sides on those dice (max of 100)
modifier - a modifier to be applied to the roll

Modifiers
+[X] - Add number X to the roll total
-[X] - Subtract number X from the roll total
*[X] - Multiply roll total by number X
/[X] - Divide roll total by number X
b[X] - "Out of a roll, sum only the highest X number of dice"

Examples
<User> roll 4d6
<dicebot> (4d6): 16

<User> roll open 4d6
<dicebot> (4d6): [9,4,2,4] 19

<User> roll vector 4d6
<dicebot> (4d6): [6,4,2,4] 16

<User> roll 4d6+1
<dicebot> (4d6): 17

<User> roll 4d6-3
<dicebot> (4d6): 13

<User> roll 4d6*2
<dicebot> (4d6): 32

<User> roll 4d6/2
<dicebot> (4d6): 8

<User> roll 4d6b3
<dicebot> (4d6): 14

There is a known problem with IRC if you are using the link on our site. Unfortunately, their IRC network says we've reached our session limit for connections from one host (that one host being us, gatewaygamer.net). So, I've sent an email to the blitzed.org admin regarding this and am looking for a way to get it back up.

Bear with me, as I'm not sure how quickly they respond.

Ok, I talked with the admin on blitzed.org and we're back up. We have a limit of 25 concurrent sessions from this host and it expires in a year. We'll have to join #help and just reask one of the admins before it expires in a year. So, everyone GET BACK ON IRC NOW!
