Corn Maze
October, 2003
We lived in Illinois for ten years and never once took advantage of the fact that we were surrounded on all sides by miles of corn. First autumn in Massachusetts and here we are navigating a corn maze. We went with T.J. and Mary, and had an exciting time. The maze is called "Mike's Maze" and was in the shape of King Tut's gold mask. You can see more about it here.
Heading into the maze. The flags are so if you get lost, you can hold it up and someone will come get you.
A poorly framed photo - the sun was in my eyes. From the left, Becky, Mary, and T.J.
Hidden in the maze were fourteen Egyptian gods. If you correctly found and identified seven of them, you won a free pumpkin. We were determined to get all fourteen, which meant navigating every bit of the maze! Here we check the god list to identify the one we've just found.
Another god is checked off the list!
And another. Ultimately we found thirteen of them. Anubis eluded us. We also got two of them swapped ("Ra" and "Amon Ra" - I bet even the Egyptians confused them!) But we still had enough for a free pumpkin! (Prize value: $1.00)
There were also sites where you could do brass rubbings. Here Becky tries it out. However, the picture they formed was simply the map we already had (for marking the gods' locations) so there wasn't much incentive to do them.
