Yes, it's true. I was involved in a minor fender bender yesterday (4/8/2002).
The day was progressing as it normally does. It had been raining heavily all day and I was picking up Sophia from daycare. For those of you that don't know, our daycare is about a mile from our house. I was driving north toward our house when I noticed a driver of a pickup truck driving erratically coming south.
Suddenly, the truck swerved into my lane heading at me head-on. I swerved and headed off the road to avoid the collision. I avoided most of it. After bringing the car to a quick stop, I turned my head to check on Sophia and noticed that the driver had continued in my lane forcing another car to drive off the road. Then the driver turned into an apartment complex parking lot, so at least he wasn't running away.

The other driver that was forced off the road turned out to be a neighborhood friend of mine name 'Mike' (or Big Mike for those that have seen him).
I waited for an opportunity to turn around and headed to talk to the other driver, in hopes of exchanging insurance information. When I got there, however, it was clear that this was going to take a while. The man was out of it. He was asking me if I was the man who was supposed to meet him. I realized that the police would have to be involved, so I asked him if he had a cell phone. He said 'sure' and proceeded to hand me a penny. Trying to think quickly, I sent a page to my wife with the license plate. A lady from the apt. complex called the police for me and by now, Sophia was ready to not be in the car and was getting fussy. The man now got out of his car and started spouting all sorts of gibberish. I decided to ask him for his driver's license, thinking that if he hands it to me, I'm going to pocket the thing just in case. He said sure and told me to follow him to his truck. So I walked back to his truck and he got in and put the key in the ignition which set off his car alarm. So there he is, sitting in a car with the alarm going and he was pretty unaware of what was going on. Mike said 'get his keys' and I thought that that sounded good, so I tried to get his keys. He wasn't stopping me, but it was one of those foreign cars and it needed some button pressed to eject the keys and I couldn't find it. Finally, the police arrived.
They asked me for my insurance card and license. Then went and talked to the man, came back and told me that he was a diabetic and needed help. Policeman 2 arrives and they call Fire and Rescue. They come and get him out of the truck and give him a glucose shot. It didn't help. His blood pressure was still dropping and they didn't know what he was on. In the end, it was probably a reaction to some perscription medicine (likely one that says Do not operate heavy machinery). Another oddity was that he had a shotgun in the driver's cab of his truck. While all this was going on, I was sending pages from my pager to my wife who was then driving to help me. So the man was taken off in another ambulance and I got my police report. And everyone is ok. My car only got a minor dent and a small scratch. I'm grateful that no one was injured.
